Road to UFC Fight Night 135 - Justin Gaethje vs James Vick

On 26 August 2018, the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, is hosting UFC Fight Night. The headline fight is between ranked number 7 UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje (record 18-2-0) vs ranked number 10 UFC lightweight James Vick (record 13-1-0).

Both fighters have impressive MMA records, but it is James Vick, whilst ranked lower in the lightweight pecking order, who will go into this fight more confident, winning his last four fights. Where as Justin Gaethje has lost his last two fights - losing to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier.

James Vick stepped in to the event when Al Laquinta was forced to withdraw from the fight. Ever since Justin Gaethje has been  throwing insults and trash talking James Vick at any opportunity he gets.

With the UFC lightweight division being stacked with talent, its difficult to see where a win at UFC Fight Night Lincoln will put the victor. With the return of Connor McGregor and the impending return of Tony Ferguson, both fighters will need to put on a big performance to get them ever closer to a UFC lightweight championship bout. But with 18 KO wins between them, this is a candidate for fight of the night or knockout of the night.

Optimal MMA prediction: James Vick win by KO, second round

The co- main event for the UFC Fight Night Lincoln card is in the UFC featherweight division between Michael Johnson (record 18-12-0) vs Andre Fili (record 18-5-0). Both fighters will be looking to get a place back in the top 15 of the division with a win on the weekend.

Michael Johnson has had a terrible time recently in the UFC octagon, losing 5 out of his last 4 UFC bouts, where as Andre Fili is looking to build on his two win streak with another win against Michael Johnson.

Optimal MMA prediction : Michael Johnson win by decision

On the prelims, Mickey Gall (record 4-1-0) who is best known for being picked by UFC president Dana White on his show "looking for a fight" and for beating WWE turned mma fighter CM punk and rising star Sage Northcut, takes on George Sullivan (record 17-6-0).

Both fighters, are returning to the UFC octagon following defeats in their last fights, but I think Micky Gall has a point to prove because it has been argued that he hasn't fought anyone of a good standard, and I think a win over George Sullivan will elevate him up the rankings of the welterweight division. I think Micky Gall can be confident as George Sullivan has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights, and Micky Gall is hungry to prove himself.

Optimal MMA prediction: Micky Gall by submission, round 2
